Since 1979, the Matthews HELP Center has been providing short-term crisis assistance to our neighbors in the Greater Matthews/Charlotte community. We provide financial and non-financial assistance (Crisis Assistance Program) for families struggling to make ends meet due to a recent crisis such as a job loss, reduced work hours or a medical crisis.
Families who reside within our 6-zip code service area of 28104,28105 (Stallings/Matthews), 28226, 28270, 28211 (Charlotte) and 28079 (Indian Trail) may apply for assistance for rent, utilities, childcare, food, clothing and household items via our website.
We also have two programs of the Matthews HELP Center, our Backporch Treasures Thrift Boutique and My Backporch Treasures online thrift store. These shops are filled with donations of clothing, shoes, decor and more from our generous community. Revenue generated from the sale of these items fuels our Crisis Assistance Program.
Our Thrift Boutique and donations area is home to more than 180 weekly volunteers who make our operation run. We are always looking for volunteers to help with our programs and would love to chat if you are interested.
