The Mecklenburg Bar Foundation is the sister organization to the Mecklenburg Bar Association and 26th Judicial District Bar. Formed in 1962, the MBF is a 501c3 organization with a mission to advance public understanding and respect for the rule of law and the role of the legal profession; to promote the highest ideals of professionalism, public service and access to the legal system; and to support the charitable and educational goals of the MeckBar.
The MBF is the only local nonprofit created by attorneys for attorneys to support the needs of the community we serve. The MBF does this through gifts to the Bar Foundation Fund. The Bar Foundation Fund is our way to give back to the community as a Bar. Through the generosity of our individual Bar members, we are able to pool our resources to make the greatest impact and to meet the greatest needs. It is an opportunity to remind the community how much attorneys give back to those around them. And we want each of you to have the opportunity to be a part of this greater good.
- Since 2020 the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation has awarded over $300,000 in grants to local organizations providing legal services or fulfilling community needs.
- Grants awarded have supported dozens of local organizations serving the citizens of Mecklenburg County.
- The Mecklenburg Bar Foundation is the home of the Hon. James B. McMillan Fellowship Program which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025.
