Mission: To improve and advance the quality of life for Black and Brown children and families through education and advocacy.
Vision: A society that ensures a successful future for all children.
For more than 50 years, the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI), a non-profit organization located in Washington, D.C., has been at the forefront of engaging leaders, policymakers, professionals, and parents around critical and timely issues that directly impact Black children and their families.
In 2005, the BCDI-Charlotte Affiliate was established to utilize volunteers at the grassroots level to implement programs, engage in advocacy, and provide services that improve the quality of life for children and families within the Charlotte community. BCDI-Charlotte continues implementing culturally relevant and research-based programs promoting literacy, health, parent engagement, and college readiness while advocating for better, stronger, and more effective policies for children ages 0-8 at the local, state, and federal levels.
BCDI-Charlotte has recently transitioned to BCDI-Carolinas and now covers more territory in both North and South Carolina.
