What We Do
The Parkview Community Foundation is located on the west side of Charlotte near Freedom Drive. The children of Parkview face high rates of addiction and incarceration among parents, and grandparents are unsupervised after school and well into the night, and at other times when school is not in session. Neglect is common to the children of Parkview. That is why we are committed to the enrichment of the lives of our children. Parkview offers a structured environment that fosters respect for rules and other people. Thirty-five children come to the Parkview Center every day from the time they get out of school starting at 3:00pm and stay until 5:30pm or later. We feed the children daily and provide a safe place where they can flourish. Parkview offers a a structured schedule that includes: A pro-homework atmosphere and support. Adult staff and volunteers who assist with tutoring, meals, activities and discipline. Computer assisted learning in literacy and math using donated computers and software. An effective program of discipline and reward that encourages good behavior. We have a computer lab for those who do not own a computer with qualified volunteers on duty to answer any questions.
Interesting Info
  • We feed up to 75 children during the summer and 45 - 60 during the school year.
  • Gwendolyn has a passion for children and protects them as her own. This community has crime, prostitution and drugs. Gwen is the recipient of many awards.
  • We are overcrowded and have to turn children away. We want to expand our building and be able to serve more children.
