What We Do
The Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research directly funds Levine Cancer Institute's and Levine Children's Hospital's research and clinical trials in sarcomas, rare cancers that can occur in bones, muscles, fat, tendons, nerves and other connective tissues.
The Foundation also honors the outstanding work and memory of its founder, Paula Takacs by expanding hope, elevating sarcoma awareness and celebrating our local community of sarcoma survivors, caregivers, healthcare teams, loved ones and their families.
Sarcomas are diagnosed about 16,000 times each year in the U.S. in adults and children. A 5-year survival rate of only about 50% results from the severely underfunded nature of this lesser-known cancer. Did you know that there is only ONE FDA-approved, first-line treatment for the over 50 types of soft tissue sarcomas that is over 45 years old!?
The Foundation currently supports an immunotherapy clinical trial; a sarcoma-specific blood biopsy pilot study, and genomic studies in osteosarcoma and synovial sarcoma. The Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Our Federal Tax ID is 27-3366677.
