Planned Parenthood is the nation’s leading provider and advocate of high-quality, affordable reproductive health care for women, men, and young people, as well as the nation’s largest provider of sex education. For more than 49 years, Planned Parenthood has been serving the residents of Charlotte and the surrounding Mecklenburg County with compassionate, nonjudgmental care including preventive services like birth control, lifesaving breast and cervical cancer screenings, abortion, gender-affirming hormone therapy, and sexual health education. We provide essential reproductive health services ranging from basic gynecological and breast exams to family planning to testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. Planned Parenthood is proud to offer a broad range of education services in the Charlotte community, serving thousands of teens each year. We advocate to expand our ability to provide care and make comprehensive, age-appropriate sex education available to teens that fosters a culture of healthy sexuality. We are committed to ensuring that the services we provide truly reflect and meet community needs.
- Studies show that more than 62,000 women in Mecklenburg County need publicly funded contraception, but just 21% of them receive services.
- Almost 60% of our patients remain uninsured; most are young adults.
- Our education program in Charlotte has reached nearly 4,000 youths and adults and trained 80 teens since July 1, 2019.
