What We Do

The Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte (SCC) is an organization of volunteers that connects learning programs and services to support and enrich lives of older adults. SCC offers Adventures in Learning and other educational programs where seniors enjoy fellowship and classes to help keep their minds and bodies active. We offer a Travel Adventures program that schedules day trips to various venues nearby and overnight trips a bit further afield. Volunteers are integral to our organization; they drive seniors to their medical appointments, counsel seniors on their Medicare options and drug plan choices, and assist with tax filings each February - April.

How we are impacted: COVID-19 precautions have prevented our clients from getting to essential medical appointments, pharmacies and grocery stores.

How you can help:
Financial donations: Some of our clients receive food from sources that have been unable to continue at this time. Donations of $25 can help Shepherd's Center provide them with groceries. Our volunteer drivers use their own car and gas. Donations of $10 would help us defray their cost.

Drivers are needed to assist clients to get to essential medical appointments and pharmacies. Drivers are also needed to assist clients with food insecurity by driving them to a grocery store or food bank. Many of our current volunteers are elderly and are not comfortable leaving their homes. Those who are volunteering now are protecting themselves by maintaining a reasonable distance from the client, not entering the client's home, waiting for the client in their cars instead of going in the office with them, and wiping down their cars with disinfectants.
