What We Do

The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network. The Charlotte Chapter promotes the mission and values of the Surfrider Foundation while providing educational awareness around the issues that are detrimental to our coasts and waterways and partnering with coastal chapters during campaigns.

The Charlotte Chapter implements new campaigns that not only improves the lives of our residents and visitors, but ultimately improves the purity of the world’s oceans. This is our passion largely in part due to the connection between Charlotte’s local lakes & rivers to the ocean.

We are bringing to Charlotte a famous, NATIONAL campaign that will reach YOUR FAVORITE CLT restaurants. The Ocean-Friendly-Restaurant program is open to all ages and requires very little time commitment from individuals. Come taste delicious food as we approach our city's yummiest restaurants and enroll them in an effort to eliminate take-away plastic bags and take-away plastic silverware. We'll keep the lakes and oceans clean! You'll be bringing great feelings and smiles as you bestow the very-cool signage and stickers to participating restaurants. They'll display the Ocean-Friendly logo to patrons and be rewarded with increased patrons.

We have become an ambassador with CharMeck Parks & Rec and host cleanups at one of the many City-Bound walks and Nature Preserves that border our lakes.

Recently we have been cleaning the shores of Lake Wylie at McDowell Nature Preserve. This summer we plan to tackle Lake Norman and host cleanups at Ramsey Creek Nature Preserve. These cleanups average over 100 pounds of garbage being removed from our lakes. Also, look for us at various events, festivals and education/environmental seminars, as we look to bring education and awareness to the Charlotte community surrounding the issues that plague our areas lakes and waters.
