Our mission is to bring equity in academic achievement to One Bright Star Scholar at a time through excellence in After School and Summer Programs for children in grades K-5. The mission centers on making a significant difference in closing the learning gap that exists in many of our schools. We accomplish this through four Integrated Experiences: Academic - We assess the unique needs of each Scholar and provide the appropriate one-on-one and small group instruction in a caring, safe, and loving environment with high expectations of every scholar. Extended Enrichment - Young Scholars enjoy STEAM activities and other real-life experiences. Core Values/Character Development - Social, emotional, and leadership development provide the thread that connects success in school and success in life. Parent and Family Engagement - Families are encouraged to become advocates for their children's education at home, in their children's schools, and in the larger society.
- During the years in partnership in East Charlotte, we have supported and served 97 students from 17 different schools including homeschool.
- From 2017-2020, using donations from local community groups and individuals, we provided sliding scale scholarships to more than 60% of our students.
- Partnering with local community churches, in the use of their facility, our goal is to provide out-of-school time locations in different areas of the community.
