“YDI operates in the after-school arena and provides critical life-job skills training and individualized career/post-HS education planning for disadvantaged high school students that results in upward economic mobility. We have served more than 3,500 students since 2006.
YDI uses a Career-Technical-Education (CTE) aligned curriculum to engage our teen scholars in an individualized guidance process that includes interactive life skills training, project-based career exploration/advisement, trades instruction (carpentry/construction), post-HS education planning, job readiness, and evidence-based mentoring. Most of our teens gain their first-ever paid work experience through YDI. At YDI, our youth participants develop an EDGE:
Establish individualized career/post-secondary education plans,
Develop vital life and interpersonal skills,
Gain essential real-world employment and social capital-building opportunities, and
Explore college/post-secondary training options.
- YDI specializes in serving disadvantaged teenagers who attend Title1 schools in Charlotte's six most vulnerable communities .
- YDI's life skills and career guidance curriculum is interactive, project-based and connects the classroom to real world life and work-based experiences.
- YDI uniquely offers trades training (carpentry, construction, etc.) as we understand a 4-year college program doesn't fit all students.
