What We Do
“YDI exists so that every at-risk teenager can graduate high school with a career pathway, a post-secondary education plan, and real-world work experiences that result in greater self-confidence, upward economic mobility and a successful life.” YDI gives hope to disadvantaged teenagers that they can make pathways out of poverty by engaging them after school in individualized and interactive life skills training, project-based career advisement, and evidence-based mentoring in which they develop an EDGE: 1) Establish individualized career/post-secondary education plans, 2) Develop vital life and literacy skills, 3) Gain essential real-world employment and social capital-building opportunities and 4) Explore college/post-secondary training options.
- We specialize in serving teenagers, who are the most under-served target population in the Charlotte region.
- YDI's life skills and career guidance curriculum is interactive, project-based and connects the classroom to real world living experiences.
- Students that spend at least one year in YDI measurably improve their grades, overall decision-making and graduate high school with career/ed plans.
