Camp Horizon is a 4-day/3-night traditional overnight experience at YMCA Camp Harrison in Boomer, NC. Participating campers with Down syndrome, ages 10-17, enjoy traditional camp activities, including horseback riding, arts & crafts, boating, fishing, swimming and more. Campers are assigned a 1:1 volunteer counselor for the duration of their time at camp.  Camp Horizon builds self-confidence and independence within the context of a traditional sleep-away camp experience.

Under the direct supervision of the Camp Director  counselors will be responsible for the safety, supervision, behavior management and programming of the participants at the camp.

•  Age 18+

• Hearing and Speaking 

• Standing, Walking, Stooping, Kneeling, Squatting, Climbing, Sitting 

• Lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 lbs 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Provide constant supervision of participant, maintaining safe ratios by not leaving an area unless adequate supervision is present. 

Supervise and actively participates with all participants during program hours. 

Ensure the execution of  activity plans as an integral part of the daily program. 

Get to know your participant and set good examples
