We are looking for volunteers who are interested in supporting our growing English as a Second Language program by teaching group ESL classes at several library branches. We're also looking for substitute teachers and teaching assistants, too!
Classes are taught twice a week (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs) for 8-week sessions. Morning classes take place from 9:30-11:30 AM and evening classes are from 6-8 PM. Currently, we have morning classes taking place at our office location (1611 E. 7th Street). This fall, we'll be offering our evening classes at two library locations: Plaza Midwood and South Blvd.
Volunteers will need to pass a background check through Sterling Volunteer and complete an ESL Teacher Training workshop before being assigned a class to teach. New teachers will also be required to shadow a current class before starting. We also provide a curriculum and resources for you to use. We have two upcoming training workshops: Aug. 26, 27, and 28 from 6-8 PM (Tues/Wed/Thurs in the evening) and September 4th from 9AM-3PM (Tues daytime).
We're currently recruiting teachers for our upcoming fall session, which runs from October 13th - December 12th, 2024. Ideally, teachers will be available for both days, but if you can only commit to one day a week, we can find a co-teacher to cover the other day.
