Lions Services is looking for Board Members. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping the blind and low vision community, including blind veterans.  Board Members meet quarterly.

Overview

The Board of Directors is the lawful embodiment of the representative ownership of Lions Services, Inc. (“Agency”). The primary purpose of the Board of Directors is to define and oversee the Agency’s strategic plan to ensure the fulfillment of the Agency’s mission and obligations. 

  1. Strategic Responsibilities:
    1. Define the mission and establish the strategic direction of the Agency
    2. Develop and maintain a strategic plan that’s aligned to the mission statement
    3. Review and endorse the Agency’s policies
    4. Provide governance oversight to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies
    5. Oversee changes that enhance the functioning of the Agency
  2. Staffing Oversight:
    1. Select, monitor, and appraise the CEO (including an annual performance review)
    2. Review the CEO staffing proposals for alignment to the Agency’s strategic plan
    3. Approve the CEO’s fair compensation and benefit policies 
    4. Maintain an informed and active board membership
    5. Ensure board members possess the expertise relevant to their duties
    6. Conduct annual board performance evaluations
  3. Financial Stewardship:
    1. Participate in the development and approval of the Agency’s annual budget
    2. Provide oversight of financial processes through quarterly report examinations
    3. Approve an independent Certified Public Accountant for annual financial audits
    4. Review Audited Financial Statements, IRS 990 forms, and other reports
    5. Lead efforts to identify and secure funding through fundraisers and personal contributions
  4. Duties of Individual Board Members:
    1. Make informed judgements and actively participate in planning and decision-making
    2. Prioritize Agency interests over personal concerns and avoid conflicts of interest
    3. Exhibit personal accountability to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
    4. Attend a minimum of three out of four annual meetings
    5. Make a minimum donation of $50 annually
    6. Arrange beneficial guests for agency tours (e.g., potential donors or supporters) annually
  5. Qualifications:
    1. Accomplished executives in business, finance, legal, government, or philanthropy
    2. Passionate about furthering the Agency’s mission and willing to advocate for the Agency
    3. Demonstrate integrity, credibility, and dedication to improving lives
    4. Committed to contributing the time, expertise, and financial support required for the success of the Agency
