What We Do

Lions Services has provided job training and career employment opportunities to people who are blind and visually impaired through the Workforce Development Program.

Mission: Empowering people who are blind to achieve personal and economic independence by providing them vocational rehabilitation and employment opportunities.

Lions Services Inc, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by the Mecklenburg County Lions Clubs in 1935. Lions Services has been offering job training and job opportunities through their Workforce Development Program to the blind and visually impaired community of Charlotte and surrounding counties for 89 years.  There are 17, 000 people living in Charlotte who are blind/visually impaired  and many are unemployed. In fact, 70% of working age adults across the US who are blind/visually impaired are not employed. Lions Services, the largest employer of people who are blind or visually impaired in Charlotte.

To address these challenges, Lions Services developed a plan to create jobs at its Charlotte location. Empowering people who want to work and eliminating barriers to employment.

Lions Services today employs 270 employees, 120 who are blind or visually impaired through our workforce development program and job training. Through our job workforce development programs we help enhance the lives of the blind to become more independent, have a purpose, and support their families. The creation of Jobs reduces isolation and provides socialization that helps the emotional well being and reduces depression for many people who are blind and vision impaired in the Charlotte community.
