Agape Acres exists to serve vulnerable and special needs youth by pairing them with a trained mentor and a rescue horse to find hope, unconditional love, and encouragement. Through equine (horse-assisted) activities, youth work on individual life skills (such as self-worth, emotional awareness, self-regulation, independence, healthy relationships, & responsibility).
Agape Acres is a safe place for struggling youth to find hope, love, and encouragement while working on skills and goals that will help them transition toward healthy adulthood. Vulnerable youth in our mentoring program come from a variety of backgrounds including special needs, foster care, adoption, trauma, and/or struggling with depression, anxiety, etc.
Please note that we are a Christian faith-based program, and while we respect all denominations, we ask that our volunteer mentors sign a personal statement of faith.
Mentor application and interview are required. This process allows us to share more about our programs and get to know you better.
Mentors are provided with online-trauma informed training as well as on site program training.
Background checks are required.
Mentor sessions are typically 60-90 minutes and occur once per week, same time/day for each youth. Mentorship programs can be summer based, semester based, or for the duration of the school year.
