What We Do

TFKC provides bicycle education programs, access to the bicycle across all socioeconomic classes, and transformative ride experiences for underserved youth while creating a healthy, educational, and safe environment for those in need within the Charlotte community. We use biking as a tool to help kids learn life lessons, focused on respect, honesty, teamwork, overcoming obstacles, healthy and safe lifestyle, service. We introduce children to the healthy, lifelong activity of cycling, and focusing on riding safely in the city of Charlotte. Our mission is to transform lives, communities, and landscapes through cycling. Our programs mainly consist of: Earn a Bike, where youth ages 8-16 have the opportunity to earn a properly fitting bike, helmet, lock and lightset, our Ride Program, giving Charlotte youth the opportunity to ride mountain bike trails and greenways on Saturdays (March-November), and our community bike shop, the Charlotte Re-Cyclery, where the community has greater accessibility to affordable refurbished bikes, cycling accessories, educational opportunities and classes. Our Charlotte Re-Cyclery accepts donated bikes which we refurbish and offer back into the community at reasonable prices to help support our Kids' Programs and help the environment. We are 100% sustainable company and re-use or recycle every part of the bicycle to keep waste out of landfills, participating in Circular Economy.
