Repeat after me: local nonprofits are not in competition, they are in collaboration.
When Dr. Sharon Jones, founder of Dottie Rose Foundation, met Angie Chandler, Senior Manager of Educational Initiatives + Public Program for the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Art + Culture last #GivingTuesdayCLT, a collaboration that would strengthen the ties between art and technology for young minds was born.

Collecting pop tabs is a fun, easy way to fundraise for families, as a family. Set-up a pop tab collection jar in your home and bring your tabs to the Ronald McDonald House once you have filled the jar so that they can exchange them for cash at local recycling centers and contribute that money to their guest family fund.
Earlier this month, Charlotte played host to the annual #GTCommunitySummit where leaders from #GivingTuesday communities near and far gathered to share ideas, learn from one another’s successes (and failures), and, perhaps most importantly, dream about the future of #GivingTuesday.
Never heard of #GivingTuesday? Let’s catch you up to speed…
Now entering it’s eighth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many are focused on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
Since 2012, people from all over the world, together, have given over $1 Billion to causes on #GivingTuesday and have made it a widely recognized and growing movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy.
With an estimated 60 people moving to Charlotte every single day, it is no secret that the Queen City has been growing rapidly in recent years. But with more residents comes a bigger demand for affordable housing, one that Charlotte has not been able to supply, causing a crisis. Before we dive into this month's focus, we have to first understand what we are talking about when we talk about affordable housing. The definition of affordable housing is "housing for which the occupant(s) is/are paying no more than 30 percent of his or her income for gross housing costs, including utilities."

DO GOOD Week 2019 may be over, but the need for volunteers is constant.
Eight brave SHARE Charlotte nonprofit partners took a spin in the DO GOOD Truck with FOX46's Jason Harper to share what they do and how you can give your time to help them. Check out the short clips for a quick taste, and the full length videos for a GOOD laugh.
Each month, SHARE Charlotte refocuses it's Spotlight Series on a different cause or issue effecting our city and shines a light on our nonprofit partners who work within that sector to strengthen Charlotte. The first step to driving out darkness is to shine a light on it, and our Spotlight Series aims to do just that while also showcasing which of our nonprofit partners are doing the hard work that will lead to a more informed, compassionate, and welcoming city.
We have so much great news to share from our nonprofit partners about their amazing work. But, we'd love to hear from you. Let us know if you have stories you'd like to tell and we'll make you a guest blogger!!
