August Spotlight Series: #AccessGrantedCLT

#AccessGrantedCLT
Presented by: Clinispan Health

This August, SHARE Charlotte’s Spotlight Series: #AccessGrantedCLT, presented by CliniSpan Health, will focus in on our local nonprofit partners who in some way make healthcare accessible to those who may otherwise not be able to receive the help they need. These nonprofit organizations grant accessibility to healthcare in a variety of ways such as by providing financial assistance, medical supplies and equipment, transportation, and free or low cost health clinics.

Thompson Child and Family Focus and Pat's Place Keep Children #SafeFromHarm

Many people want to make a change in their communities, they just don’t know how. SHARE Charlotte has hundreds of valuable community resources all in one centralized location. I look forward to sharing several of those resources monthly, in order to encourage you to put your good intent to action.

#SafeFromHarm: Affordable Housing Crisis in CLT Keeps Some in Harm's Way

Charlotte can be a costly place to live, especially with the average rent climbing higher and higher, it’s becoming impossible for some people to live alone, even if that’s what they want. Public conversation often circles around solving the affordable housing shortage, but little is discussed about how the lack of affordable housing causes unsafe living situations, leaving some fellow Charlotteans tethered to unsafe home lives. Because of SHARE Charlotte’s network of nonprofit agencies working to help those in harm’s way.

Keeping Animals #SafeFromHarm

Keeping Animals #SafeFromHarm

For many people, their pet is another member of the family. You love them, take care of them, and find comfort in being around them- you couldn’t imagine anything bad ever happening to them. You especially could never imagine doing anything to hurt them yourself.

As we explore the different forms of abuse and our nonprofit partners who are fighting to keep our community #SafeFromHarm this month, it is important that we open our eyes to the reality of animal abuse.

June Spotlight Series: #SafeFromHarm

This June, SHARE Charlotte’s Spotlight Series: #SafeFromHarm, presented by The Relocation Guide, will focus on our local nonprofit partners who raise awareness about abuse as well as offer services to victims of abuse in all of its forms. These organizations each offer a different approach to keeping individuals #SafeFromHarm, whether that means healing and supporting those who have faced abuse and are now coping with the aftermath, or going out into our community to rescue those who cannot necessarily save themselves from harm’s way.

#MindYourMentalHealth: Mental Health First Aid

We find it acceptable, to a certain extent, for older people to talk about their every ailment - bowel movement frequency, medication regimen, colitis episodes, etc. We all discuss headaches, soreness, allergies, while freely disclosing complete medical history in doctor’s office waiting rooms, well, almost complete medical histories.

#MindYourMentalHealth: Treating Mental Illness is a Whole New Ballgame

Treating mental illness is a whole new ballgame

It’s a warm spring evening in Charlotte, and a perfect night for baseball.

10,197 fans make their way into BB&T Ballpark to watch the Knights play the Norfolk Tides. But there’s more going on in the stadium than baseball and dizzy bat races.

In the stands that night sit 713 adults battling major depression — a full 7% of the crowd.

They’re not sitting in special sections. Or wearing brightly colored shirts.
