What We Do

She Dreams In Color Foundation provides funding for free and significantly reduced mental health therapy services to marginalized women in Charlotte. We also work to destigmatize mental health needs and seeking of care through our interview series and podcast.

$100 provides one hour of therapy. We partner with Charlotte based private practices with multiple providers who reflect the women we serve so our donations also reinvest into our community.

Our board defines marginalized as a Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander or other woman of color living below the Federal poverty level. Foundation for the Carolinas data shows those making under $50,000 report double the poor mental health days of someone making more than $50,000 a year.

For our interview series and podcast, we aim to normalize conversations of mental health needs and seeking care. Clinical trials reported by the National Institute of Health in 2022 show stigma-related storytelling content online does have a positive impact on reducing the stigma related to mental health.

We are intentional in all the work we do and how our funds are invested and spent. Even our fundraisers reinvest dollars into women-owned small businesses in Charlotte that reflect the diversity of our Board of Directors and the women we serve. 75% of therapists are women and 25% self report as a minority population. We have designed our process so our donations continue to uplift women every step of the way.
