She Dreams In Color Foundation
She Dreams In Color Foundation provides funding for free and significantly reduced mental health therapy services to marginalized women in Charlotte. We also work to destigmatize mental health needs and seeking of care for all people.
$100 provides one hour of therapy. We partner with Charlotte based private practices with multiple providers who reflect the women we serve so our donations are also reinvested into our community.
Our board defines marginalized as a Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander or other woman of color living below the Federal poverty level and who live in one of the six health disparity zip codes in Charlotte. Foundation for the Carolinas data shows those making under $50,000 report double the poor mental health days of someone making more.
For our YouTube interview series and podcast, we aim to normalize conversations of mental health needs and seeking care. Clinical trials reported by the National Institute of Health in 2022 show stigma-related storytelling content online does have a positive impact on reducing the stigma related to mental health.
We are intentional in all the work we do and how our funds are invested and spent. Even our fundraisers reinvest dollars into women-owned small businesses in Charlotte that reflect the diversity of our Board of Directors and the women we serve. 75% of therapists are women and 25% self report as a minority population.
We intentionally work so every part of our donations uplift women in our community.
- 45-54 is the most likely age a woman will die by suicide, likely from perimenopausal hormone changes. The rate increased 6% the past 20 years.
- Our work directly addresses Strategy R of the Leading on Opportunity task force report by the Foundation For the Carolinas.
- Our Queen's Tea Party raises funds during Women's Mental Health Month and provides attendees a healing afternoon in community with other women.
