Charlotte's Point In Time Count is January 25th

#EverybodyCountsCLT

The 2024 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Point In Time Count (PIT) will take place on Thursday, January 25th, 2024. This annual event is when the community comes together to survey and count each person experiencing sheltered or unsheltered homelessness on one night in January. On January 25th, volunteers and outreach teams will canvass the community to locate and engage individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness.

Last year in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, 1,916 people were counted, including 171 families, 106 unaccompanied youth (18-24), and 288 people sleeping outside.

Want to help?

Meet Hearts for the Invisible Charlotte Coalition. They function as the lead agency for Mecklenburg County to provide comprehensive HUD defined street outreach services for individuals and families experiencing unsheltered homelessness.

The volunteer counter's list is already full (thank you, Charlotte!). If you want to help, Hearts for the Invisible is humbly asking that their Amazon Wishlist be fulfilled. These items go directly to Charlotte's homeless neighbors.

Inexpensive items can be purchased, shipped directly to the nonprofits, and will be handed out by Hearts for the Invisible's street outreach team. Just a few of the items needed...

  • Sleeping Bags
  • Tarps
  • Gloves
  • Hand and feet warmer packets

Full community support and engagement is needed to not only make this year's PIT a success, but to also move forward with the work to prevent and end homelessness in Mecklenburg County.
