CLT Celebrated Global Day of Giving By Supporting Local- A #GivingTuesdayNow Recap
The creators of the largest annual global day of giving, GivingTuesday, introduced #GivingTuesdayNow on May 5, 2020 as an opportunity for communities around the world to come together and give in immediate response to the unprecedented need caused by the current COVID-19 crisis.
#GivingTuesdayNow sparked activity in more than 145 countries on May 5 for a global day of unity and giving. Millions of people expressed their generosity through acts of kindness, donations of goods, time and money, notes of compassion, advocacy for causes, and care for family and friends. Read more about the results of #GivingTuesdayNow on a global scale, here.
Charlotte participated in this global giving movement by supporting nonprofits on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis right here in our own backyard. At GivingTuesdayNow-CLT.org, our community could choose from countless ways to support local nonprofits heavily impacted by the COVID-19 crisis as we showcased the specific needs that our nonprofit partners had identified as most urgent. Those needs can still be found here.
Additionally, individuals, organizations and businesses with a larger budget who are able to make a sizable donation on short notice were encouraged to become “Angel Donors” and cover the cost of higher ticket items needed by local nonprofits. Thank you to all who fulfilled Angel Donor opportunities in honor of #GivingTuesdayNow:
-
Crescent Communities adopted Community Link's Angel Donor opportunity, feeding 4 “hidden homeless” families with children!
-
A neighbor adopted Harvest Center's opportunity, providing 15 refurbished laptops so children on their campus can learn virtually!
-
A neighbor adopted one of Thompson's Angel Donor opportunities, equipping their temporary shelter with necessities to house up to six homeless families!
-
Three neighbors provided hot meals for neighbors in shelters, feeding 250 people each night while supporting local food service providers who prepare and deliver the food!
-
A neighbor adopted Shepherd’s Center’s Angel Donor opportunity, providing groceries and transportation for 100 seniors!
-
A neighbor adopted Safe Alliance’s Angel Donor opportunity, helping them pivot their monthly “Victim Services 101” volunteer and outreach training to e-learning!
