#GivingTuesdayCLT Invites Charlotte to Do Good this Giving Season
Charlotte celebrates six years of #GivingTuesdayCLT!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 2, 2019
(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) - Tomorrow (Dec 3) is #GivingTuesdayCLT, Charlotte’s local celebration of the global GivingTuesday movement. Presented for a fourth consecutive year by Wells Fargo, #GivingTuesdayCLT invites Charlotteans to come together and give back to the Mecklenburg County nonprofit community and support local, social good. Want to join the movement and give now? Head over to GivingTuesdayCLT.org!
Organized annually by SHARE Charlotte, #GivingTuesdayCLT brings together hundreds of local nonprofits as well as businesses, individuals and community organizations to collectively rally our community to give. Since 2014, #GivingTuesdayCLT has influenced over $24M in gifts to Charlotte nonprofits and inspired more than 15,000 new donors. In 2016, #GivingTuesdayCLT was named the largest GivingTuesday community celebration in the world. This year’s sponsors include Presenting Partner Wells Fargo and Official Partners Lowe’s, Google Fiber, Hendrick Family Foundation, Spiracle Media, AvidXchange and the Amy and Brian France Foundation.
“Wells Fargo is proud to continue our support of #GivingTuesdayCLT and the great work SHARE Charlotte is doing for our local community. Our goal is to help build strong and vibrant communities, and improve the quality of life for everyone in those communities. Wells Fargo and SHARE Charlotte share a commitment to making a positive difference in Charlotte,” said Kendall Alley, Region Bank President for Wells Fargo.
“GivingTuesday is an incredible example of how a small, grass-roots movement created in NYC in response to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday has grown into a global giving phenomenon,” says Amy Jacobs, Executive Director of SHARE Charlotte. “We are proud to lead #GivingTuesdayCLT and partner with hundreds of local nonprofits to encourage our community to be generous on this kickoff day to Charlotte’s giving season.”
This year’s annual #GivingTuesdayCLT Headquarters event will assist nonprofits with creating unique and impactful social media to amplify their #GivingTuesdayCLT needs, leveraging local professionals who are donating their time and talent. The Carolina Panthers will be on site to give away a Super Bowl Prize Pack (two tickets and accomodations to Super Bowl LIV) for one lucky nonprofit to gift to a volunteer, and to activate on social media alongside our nonprofit community as they compete for a $100,000 grant as part of the NFL’s 100th anniversary celebration. Not a nonprofit but love our nonprofit community? You can come support your favorite causes by stopping by and using your own personal influence or your business's reach to amplify the needs of your favorite nonprofit. The event is 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Dec. 3 at hygge Jay Street.
In honor of #GivingTuesdayCLT, this year’s Uptown Tree Lighting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 at 7th Street and N. Tryon Street (now known as Victoria Yards). At both the Headquarters event and Uptown Tree Lighting, the Charlotte community will have the opportunity to gift their favorite local nonprofit a $100 Lowe’s gift card, generously donated by Lowe’s.
This year, businesses that give in big, bold or creative ways on #GivingTuesdayCLT can be recognized at Charlotte Business Journal’s first philanthropic awards event, #BizGivesCLT. The Dec. 12 event will award companies that go above and beyond for a local nonprofit on Dec. 3. For example, an alliance of 26 local breweries, known as CIBA, are joining forces to raise money for Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation by donating $.95/pint (95% of beer is water!) from a dedicated tap at each participating brewery throughout December.SHARE Charlotte is building a better Charlotte by empowering nonprofits and helping people invest in their communities in ways that matter most to them.
