A few GOOD questions for Lowe's...
Why did Lowe’s decide to sponsor #GivingTuesdayCLT this year?
Lowe’s is committed to supporting the communities where we live, work and play, and Charlotte is our hometown!
What community engagement does Lowe’s do throughout the year?
We’re constantly involved in our communities, from providing grants and scholarships to supporting our associates and customers during times of disaster, like we recently witnessed with Hurricanes Florence and Michael. Lowe’s Heroes projects are an opportunity for Lowe’s associates to volunteer for causes close to their hearts. We also offer Give Back Time, an annual offer that gives employees eight hours of paid time off to volunteer.
In addition, our national partnerships support our philanthropic focuses on K-12 education and community improvement. For example, we worked with Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Renovation Across the Nation campaign to provide critical updates to 50 Clubs nationwide. Locally, we’ve worked with Habitat for Humanity Charlotte and Our Towns Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together Charlotte and the American Red Cross. You can learn more about Lowe’s work in our communities on our Open House website.
Does Lowe’s focus on a particular cause or support a specific nonprofit sector? (ex. Children, animals, environment, upward mobility, education, etc.)
Our philanthropic focuses are K-12 education and community improvement, which takes shape through various partnerships with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity, to name a few.
Who are some of the another local nonprofits that Lowe’s has a relationship with or has supported in the past?
From local work with the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets to national work with American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together, Boys & Girls Clubs and The Nature Conservancy, we focus on ways we can support our associates and customers meaningfully. We’re thrilled when we can be involved in a project that leverages our products, services and volunteers and allows us to roll up our sleeves!
In what ways does Lowe’s encourage their employees to get involved? (ex. volunteer time off, employee service projects, etc.)
Giving back is core to who we are as a company – it’s in our DNA, and we want associates to understand the importance of getting involved. We have three key ways we urge that involvement:
- Lowe’s Employee Giving Portal breaks down barriers to volunteerism by spotlighting local volunteer and donation opportunities for associates who want to get involved.
- Lowe’s Heroes Projects are store- or district-led efforts to really make a difference in the communities where we live, work and play.
- Give Back Time is Lowe’s annual offer to each associate: Volunteer for a cause close to your heart, and we’ll pay you for eight hours of your work.
Does Lowe’s have a staff member or team dedicated to community engagement?
Our Community Relations team is composed of 5 people, but we’re proud to consider Lowe’s entire workforce – all 310,000 associates – as the backbone of our ability to support our communities nationwide.
What is one thing you would like Charlotte to know about Lowe’s that they may not already know? (Ex: Annual budget allocated to philanthropy, number of total hours employees have served, special projects you have completed, your focus for 2019, etc).
We’re proud to be one of the Charlotte area’s largest businesses, and we’re proud to be your neighbor! We are committed to giving back to you through impactful community projects.
Why does Lowe’s think community-wide campaigns like #GivingTuesdayCLT are important to Charlotte?
Like all metro areas, the Charlotte community has critical needs and relies on companies and neighbors getting involved to help. We’re so proud to support SHARE Charlotte’s #GivingTuesdayCLT effort because you’re connecting people and companies who want to do good but sometimes need a little help understanding how they can best serve. Congratulations on what is sure to be another successful campaign, and on behalf of your Charlotte neighbors, thank you for all you do!
