Meet the Charlotte Street Art Collaborative
Charlotte Street Art Collaborative
“Studies have proven that the creation of art and the viewing of it takes us to a [restful] place. It brings us to a meditative state, similar to that achieved in prayer or yogic breathing. In this state our stress levels reduce, the production of stress hormones like cortisol that wreak all kinds of havoc on our bodies goes down. We feel less anxious, more at ease, and clarity returns. This is the healing opportunity that art gives each and every one of us.” - Kathleen Finch
Looking for a release and for healing during the pandemic, Kathleen Finch, founder of the Charlotte Street Art Collaborative, found herself at a pop up street art gallery in the NoDA arts district. Noticing the absence of face to face contact before, during, and after the pandemic, and noticing the need for a return to face to face contact as well as a deep love of color, art, and community, Kathleen found her vision for the Charlotte Street Art Collaborative.
Meet the Charlotte Street Art Collaborative. This art collaborative facilitates education and exposure to a diverse range of art mediums via events and workshops with inspirational purpose. What’s the next best way to get involved and learn more? Attend CLT Edge Fest on July 13th!
Metal Health & Art Connection: “What does art mean to you? In all our events & workshops there is always a mental health component. The reason for this purposeful effort is that art & the creation of it have a direct correlation to improved physical & mental wellbeing. Girija Kaimal EdD & Juan Muniz, PhD showed in their study that the creation of art can effectively reduce cortisol production levels, a stress hormone that can wreak havoc on one’s health if left unmanaged.”
