Partners for Parks: #SpotlightOnCLT Great Outdoors
Partners for Parks
Taking cues from similar events around the country and the world, Open Streets 704 aims to build a better, healthier, connected community by encouraging Charlotte and Mecklenburg area residents to walk, bicycle, and experience the city together in a way that’s just not possible in a car.
What would you like the community to know about the challenges your organization is trying to solve?
We are working to ensure every citizen in Charlotte has easy access to public and recreational space.
What is your organization’s role in the community?
Through our Open Streets 704 and Play Streets Pilot Program, we partner with communities to turn non-traditional areas into Parks for the Day.
We love impact stories, could you share one?
Recently, we partnered with Hidden Valley Neighborhood Association to pilot our Play Streets Program. In partnership with Public Health and Parks and Recreation, we turned a 1/4 of a mile of neighborhood streets into a park for residents of all ages to enjoy. It helps the community see the relationships built and possibilities for improvement with their neighborhood when they come together for fun.
About the image pictured above: A student from Hidden Valley Elementary enjoys playing in the streets during the pilot of Play Streets. Play Streets is an opportunity for neighborhoods to turn a block or two into a park for the day.
