SHARE Charlotte 7th Annual Nonprofit Summit

SHARE Charlotte 7th Annual Nonprofit Summit

SHARE Charlotte is the #1 resource for Charlotte nonprofits, providing access to professional development, networking, and support needed to sustain and grow their organizations.

We created SHARE SHINE™ which stands for SHAREholders In Nonprofit Empowerment. SHARE SHINE ™ provides year-round affordable programming to help leaders develop the skills to create impactful nonprofit organizations.

A key pillar of SHINE is our Annual Nonprofit Summit, the one day of the year when the ENTIRE Charlotte nonprofit sector comes together to learn and celebrate their collective impact on our community. Hundreds of leaders and staff members from organizations of all sizes (grassroots to multi-million orgs) and all missions (from kids, animals, food insecurity, homelessness, education, the environment and so many more).

The Charlotte nonprofit sector is special, they face hard challenges and support our communities most vulnerable each and every day but when they get together it is pure joy and collaboration.

This was our 7th year hosting the Nonprofit Summit and each year we choose a new theme and this year we chose fundraising - a popular topic and source of frustration and mystery for many nonprofit leaders.

We brought in an amazing organization called For Impact to lead what is typically a 2 day fundraising bootcamp into a one-day session.

The For Impact team led by Nick Fellers has an impressive history of helping raise over $175M   for causes in 30 countries and trained leaders from over 1,000 organizations in how to use a sales process to maximize funding opportunities, recruit talent, and lead teams.

The day was focused on frameworks and skill-building using real world examples so attendees could leave with the knowledge and confidence to have better funding conversations, including:

  • Ways to simplify messaging and tips for making a visually engaging case-for-support.
  • Practical and usable language to make an ask.
  • Proven practices to help  identify prospects.
  • A repeatable process to secure  visits and make more requests.
  • Time management strategies to optimize time and focus.

One of the signature portions of our Annual Summit is The Funder Panel. We have one every year because it gives nonprofits a chance to peek inside the mind of a funder and hear their point of view on trends, successful partnerships and their funding priorities.

This year we were joined by Jarian Kerkes, President of The Equitable Foundation and Rod Banks, Senior Vice President of Community Relations at Wells Fargo.

Plus, we also had a chance to feature our Resource Partners which included Attolero Nonprofit Accounting ServicesRevJen professional development for nonprofit leaders  and the NC Center for Nonprofits.

Truly an amazing  and inspiring day to see Charlotte’s best and most impactful nonprofit leaders sharing a day of learning.

Here are quotes from our partners that attended:

“I walked out with such tangible ideas and tools that I came back and scheduled a half-day funding strategy meeting with our development person. I look forward to putting these to action and thinking about how we can revamp our strategy and outcomes!” - Dress for Success

“In the day-to-day cyclones we all face of balancing our priorities and workloads; taking time to THINK and LEARN is so important! SHARE Charlotte  gives us lots of opportunities to do that and to network. But the Summit was one of my favorite professional development workshops! The content was relative and applicable. I took away new ideas, new connections and things I could put into practice right away!” - Cancer for College

We are already excited for next year’s SHARE Charlotte Nonprofit Summit!
