GardHouse and SHARE Charlotte - Internship Recap
Olivia Packer, SHARE's fall intern, shares her experience with Charlotte's nonprofit community during her stay with us. We are grateful for her time and passion towards this important work. Thank you, Olivia!
"Over the fall semester, I have interned with SHARE Charlotte through GardHouse. GardHouse is a non-profit that serves Black and brown college students in an effort to align them with employment upon graduation. This has been my first internship experience, and it has been a great one. I’ve been able to learn the inner workings of nonprofit work and as well as share my passion for humanitarian aid.
I have worked alongside Melissa and Amanda and the entire SHARE Charlotte team to assist in multiple tasks to include:
- Managing analytics
- Organizing volunteer data
- Creating a College Volunteer Guide and Holiday Giving Guide
- Creating Nonprofit Resources and Donate Used Items landing pages
- Supporting advertisement for #GivingTuesdayCLT
Managing SHARE Charlotte’s Google analytics has brought me one step closer to becoming a Service Engine Operator upon graduation in May. Organizing volunteer data and creating useful guides has provided clarity for community members to participate in all the work these nonprofits are doing. I have been able to strengthen my professional writing skills through contacting corporate partners and businesses in the Charlotte area. I’ve had the opportunity to meet volunteer engagement coordinators and other nonprofit leaders during September’s SHARE SHINE development workshop and the Power of Giving event.
With all the work I’ve done with Share Charlotte, I’ve been able to learn about over 650 amazing nonprofits that serve the Charlotte area. There are optimal nonprofits that serve a broad range of communities. Having SHARE Charlotte as a resource provides nonprofits with volunteer and donation opportunities, enrichment sessions, connections among nonprofits and overall support to continue in their work.
Nonprofit work may look different day to day but the passion behind it remains the same. I am grateful to have been a part of the mission of SHARE Charlotte and to have this experience as a stepping stone into my career and future endeavors."
