SHARE Charlotte Soars Past #GivingTuesdayCLT Goal, Announces $4.2 Million Raised for Area Nonprofits
Community rallies to support 108 local nonprofits, far exceeding $2 million goal
Charlotte, N.C. (Dec. 8, 2015) – On Nov. 10, SHARE Charlotte began its second #GivingTuesdayCLT campaign which this year supported a record-breaking 108 area nonprofits, and a goal of raising $2 million. From its kickoff at Heist Brewery on Nov. 10 through Dec. 1 – global #GivingTuesday – the Charlotte community united to break all records set for the year and raised more than $4 million.
“It is an incredible feeling to watch a campaign like #GivingTuesdayCLT unfold,” said Kelly Brooks, founder of SHARE Charlotte. “We believe when we all rally around a common purpose – of doing good and uplifting our city – then magic can happen. This campaign was an opportunity to do something more for Charlotte than just raise money. It created a stronger core for our city,” said Brooks.
89% of partner nonprofits reported over $3.4 million in cash received through their individual campaigns using #GivingTuesdayCLT vehicles and messaging. The campaign also raised a record $545,000 in pledged volunteer hours, as well as $171,000 in in-kind donations. Nearly 4,200 new donors to the nonprofits were reported. “Nonprofits raise money every day but this collective collaboration for a single purpose is what drives real movement. It is a rare and exciting chance for all walks of life to take part and make an investment in the future of Charlotte. SHARE Charlotte is the catalyst that can make that happen and believes in the promise of ‘the rising tide lifts all boats,’” Brooks added. “We knew $2 million was a stretch goal for us, but we needed to get people’s attention. Gradually people started to understand the intention of the campaign and wanted to be part of it in any way they could.”
