Special Olympics: #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness
Today's highlight for #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness is all about Special Olympics North Carolina. Special Olympics North Carolina offers year-round sports training and competition for nearly 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. These athletes inspire greatness through their success and provide motivation to the thousands of coaches, sports officials, local program committee members, and event organizers involved in Special Olympics statewide. SONC offers Olympic-type competitions in 19 sports on local and state levels.
The Special Olympics NC-Mecklenburg County includes over 3,000 athletes and 1,500 volunteers! We spoke with Kate McGhee from SONC about their connection to our community.
What would you like the community to know about the challenges your organization is trying to solve?

We love impact stories, could you share one?
“Special Olympics has given me a way to express myself. It has given me exactly what I needed. It’s a place where I can ride horses with people, not exactly like me, but who face similar trials and tribulations as me.” - Nathan Klein, Special Olympics athlete from Durham County
