SHARE Charlotte’s sixth annual Do Good Week (April 18-23) is Charlotte’s local celebration of National Volunteer Week which rallies our community to Do Good locally through volunteerism, supporting hundreds of local causes and organizations.
We are so grateful to Novant Health for their third year in support of Do Good Week and raising the level of awareness of the needs that local nonprofits have for volunteers. Plus, through volunteering not only does the nonprofit benefit but so does the volunteer because “It Feels Good to Do Good”!
We asked our friends at Novant Health what motivates them to invest so heavily in our nonprofit community and to give so generously with their volunteer hours.
How has Novant Health shifted its volunteer focus during the pandemic?
The last two years have been tough for everyone. Our team members have gone above and beyond their normal roles to help serve the needs of our communities in response to COVID-19. Through our team member volunteer platform, Novant Health Cares, we have been able to host several large virtual opportunities with Bright Blessings, Classroom Central and the Red Cross. As things begin to reopen, we are providing our team members with amazing volunteer opportunities throughout the spring and summer
How do Novant Health employees enjoy volunteering their time?
Jeanne Smyle, an analyst in the Novant Health Digital Products and Services department, started volunteering just to have something to do on the weekends. The more volunteering she did, the more she started to enjoy it. She learned so much about the needs of the community and how she could better serve those needs. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering at DigiBridge, Second Harvest Food Bank, Hospitality House and many more wonderful Charlotte nonprofits.
In support of national volunteer month, Novant Health has team members participating in warehouse sorting at Loaves & Fishes and Second Harvest Food Bank, packing lunches for Roof Above, creating bags for Rowan Helping Ministries and many other opportunities!
What do you want the Charlotte community to know about Novant Health’s commitment to support the health of our community members?
Novant Health exists to improve the health of our communities, one person at a time. To do that we have to start with members of our own team and make sure we are working together to make a positive impact on our community.
Bringing our teams together to volunteer and give our time to others is one way that we can positively affect our community members. Through Novant Health Cares, we encourage all of our team members to follow their passions to find amazing nonprofit partners.
