Volunteerism Ignites Employee Engagement at our Lunch & Learn
Corporate Volunteer Council Lunch & Learn Recap Blog
Research shows that 71% of private-sector companies are using volunteerism as a way to unite their workforce and 79% of employees who volunteer are more likely to be satisfied with their job. However, the practical applications of how to do this can be hard to implement within corporations. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) leaders have a lot on their plates trying to steward employee engagement across thousands of employees both nationally and globally.
SHARE Charlotte, in partnership with TIAA, hosted our first Corporate Volunteer Council Lunch & Learn at the TIAA offices on October 2, 2024 to explore how volunteerism ignites employee engagement!
The goal of this event was to bring together Corporate Social Responsibility leaders to share their best practices around how to build a corporate culture that energizes employees to give back to their community. Through our speaker and panel of CSR leaders, we explored how they are using volunteerism as a way to engage and reward employees.
The luncheon included:
TIAA Overview: How they energize employees through volunteerism with Jillian Peat Hamilton, Senior Director of Community Impact at TIAA
CSR Leader Panel Discussion:
- Successful ways to engage and reward employees in volunteerism, moderated by Julie Cross, Director of Community Impact at TIAA.
- Skills Based Volunteering, Deidra Parrish Williams, Director of Global Corporate Social Responsibility & Community Affairs at Trane Technologies
- Days of Impact, Azanique Rawl, Global Community & Crew Experience Lead Vanguard
- Nonprofit Board Placement, Ola McClean, Senior Vice President, Site & Market Human Resource for the Charlotte Market at Bank of America
Several nonprofits leaders were also present for the Lunch & Learn because both sides are needed to ensure that employees have a great volunteer experience. We know nonprofits need the skills, time, talents and support of corporate volunteers to be successful in fulfilling their mission.
SHARE Charlotte provides Corporate Engagement Offerings to be the extended arm of a Corporate Social Responsibility team to plan volunteer engagement opportunities or volunteer fairs to create meaningful employee engagement opportunities. Plus, we have created a Volunteerism is Key to Employee Engagement White Paper, which has statistics on the benefits of employee engagement and how to get started.
Stay tuned for the announcement of our 2nd Annual Corporate Volunteer Summit in early 2025 which will continue this discussion of employee engagement and volunteerism!
