Where to start? Here!
"It's tough to find ways to give back," explains Kathleen Huddleston, a SHARE Charlotte Neighbor and mom of two. "Yet it's important to me that my kids see philanthropy and giving back to our community as a way of life, not just something we do on holidays or when it's convenient."
Not sure where to start, Kathleen heard about SHARE Charlotte. "I wanted a cause that my kids and I could relate to together, and one that we could participate in as a family. So I searched for organizations under 'Kids' and 'Families' and found several that were wonderful."
But one organization in particular touched her heart. "When I read about Blessings in a Backpack, and that they support kids in our community who would otherwise go hungry...I knew that was it." Now as Kathleen grocery shops with her kids, she adds one or two items to her cart. "When we collect a bag full, we donate them to Blessings. It's something I can easily work into my schedule and it's started great conversations with my older daughter about why we help others."
"I needed this process to be easy," explains Kathleen. "And it was. As I'm looking for my next family volunteer opportunity I'll know right where to start - SHARE Charlotte."
------------------Thanks Kathleen! We're so glad we could help! We love sharing these stories about the ways SHARE Charlotte is helping Neighbors connect with our community. Got a story? We'd love to hear it!
