Stories

Some call it stories. Others call it a blog. But here you will find nuggets of goodness to use and -- you guessed it -- SHARE!

#52Tuesdays: Carolina Family Connections- Shakil's Story

Where is it that you feel safest? While many people have the luxury of answering “at home”, others are constantly worried about what awaits them- for some, home is not where the heart is.

Thousands of children in North Carolina enter foster care each year because they are no longer safe in their homes and are in need of a foster family to care for them and, during this transitional and fragile time in a child’s life, Carolina Family Connections (CFC) is there.

#52Tuesdays: Erika Carney

Sometimes life has a way of coming full circle. For Erika Carney, the last six years have done just that- taking her on a journey that all started when she was first introduced to SHARE Charlotte in 2012.

Carney first learned about SHARE Charlotte when it was just an idea.

#52Tuesdays: Engineering a Dream- Reagan's Story

Engineering a Dream: Reagan’s Story  By Grace Kennedy

When Reagan Watson was making rockets out of bendy straws at her kindergarten classmate’s house, she had no idea her love for science and engineering would lead to being a contestant on a national network television show.

As it turns out, her classmates’s mom who was hosting the rocket-making activity is Sandy Marshall, founder of Project Scientist.
And Project Scientist has been a key ingredient in Reagan’s incredible journey.

#52Tuesdays: Turning One Good Deed into Twenty

Gina McGourty took an already GOOD deed and turned it into a GREAT one.

As a part of DO GOOD Week, our sponsor Duke Energy generously gave away a night in their Luxury Suite at BB&T Ballpark to one lucky winner. To be entered to win the contest, you had to sign up for a volunteer opportunity on that given day of DO GOOD Week and at the end of the evening a winner was chosen at random from the list of volunteers who gave their time to GOOD.

#52tuesdays: Time to DO GOOD

"Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another." ~Erma Bombeck

SHARE Charlotte partners with more than 400 nonprofits that all serve Mecklenburg County. While they all serve different people and causes in our community, they all have one thing in common: slim operating budgets necessitating a need for volunteers to help.

#52tuesdays: Charlotte Knights Charities

BB&T Ballpark will be opening its gates back up for the first game of the 2018 season on Thursday, April 12. But that doesn’t mean the Charlotte Knights organization has been idle in the offseason. In fact, they have been up to a whole lot of GOOD.

Often outshined by the excitement of the sport, the Charlotte Knights are much more than a baseball team. They are an organization of hard-workers who give back to their community in so many more ways than you may think. The Charlotte Knights even have a charitable arm solely dedicated to enriching their namesake city.

#52tuesdays: Bottle Cap Group

During #GivingTuesdayCLT many local businesses joined in to support Charlotte’s nonprofits.

Bottle Cap Group, which owns nine local restaurants, stepped up in a big way last fall, each donating 10 percent of sales on Tuesday, Nov. 28 to a designated nonprofit. All American Pub (pictured) chose the Steve Smith Family Foundation as its recipient.

#52tuesdays: Body & Soul Senior Fitness

In Charlotte, 29 percent of adults aged 65 and over live alone and nearly 21 percent of Charlotte residents 60 and over receive food stamps. (U.S. Census, 2010)

How can we help this generation? Body & Soul Senior Fitness has implemented a great idea by working to keep Charlotte’s seniors active and social.

Body & Soul Senior Fitness works within local churches to provide a place for senior adults to grow physically stronger, meet new friends and find joy in daily living.

#52tuesdays: Google Fiber

Faster. Fairer. Kinder. That’s how we at Google Fiber describe our gigabit speed internet service, but it is also a vision we have for the world.

Faster. We want individuals to have the ability to quickly and easily make a positive impact on issues that matter most to them.

Fairer. We seek to create communities where everyone has a chance to succeed.

Kinder. We imagine a society where generosity and compassion are the norm.
