Stories

Some call it stories. Others call it a blog. But here you will find nuggets of goodness to use and -- you guessed it -- SHARE!

#52Tuesdays: Operation Homefront

On July 4th, America will celebrate it’s 242nd Independence Day, commemorating our country’s adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

While many will be celebrating the holiday by donning stars and stripes or watching fireworks in the night sky, it is important that we as a nation remember what we are celebrating- freedom. We are the land of the free, because of the brave.

Each One. Reach One.

Each One. Reach One.

This blog piece was supposed to be a celebration of sorts. About Monea. She is the wonderful example of collaboration between two Charlotte organizations Urban Ministry Center and Fashion & Compassion. The Urban Ministry Center was founded almost 25 years ago as the last place of hope for those experiencing homelessness in our city.

Thompson Child and Family Focus and Pat's Place Keep Children #SafeFromHarm

Many people want to make a change in their communities, they just don’t know how. SHARE Charlotte has hundreds of valuable community resources all in one centralized location. I look forward to sharing several of those resources monthly, in order to encourage you to put your good intent to action.

#52Tuesdays: Carolina Family Connections- Shakil's Story

Where is it that you feel safest? While many people have the luxury of answering “at home”, others are constantly worried about what awaits them- for some, home is not where the heart is.

Thousands of children in North Carolina enter foster care each year because they are no longer safe in their homes and are in need of a foster family to care for them and, during this transitional and fragile time in a child’s life, Carolina Family Connections (CFC) is there.

#SafeFromHarm: Affordable Housing Crisis in CLT Keeps Some in Harm's Way

Charlotte can be a costly place to live, especially with the average rent climbing higher and higher, it’s becoming impossible for some people to live alone, even if that’s what they want. Public conversation often circles around solving the affordable housing shortage, but little is discussed about how the lack of affordable housing causes unsafe living situations, leaving some fellow Charlotteans tethered to unsafe home lives. Because of SHARE Charlotte’s network of nonprofit agencies working to help those in harm’s way.

#52Tuesdays: Erika Carney

Sometimes life has a way of coming full circle. For Erika Carney, the last six years have done just that- taking her on a journey that all started when she was first introduced to SHARE Charlotte in 2012.

Carney first learned about SHARE Charlotte when it was just an idea.

Keeping Animals #SafeFromHarm

Keeping Animals #SafeFromHarm

For many people, their pet is another member of the family. You love them, take care of them, and find comfort in being around them- you couldn’t imagine anything bad ever happening to them. You especially could never imagine doing anything to hurt them yourself.

As we explore the different forms of abuse and our nonprofit partners who are fighting to keep our community #SafeFromHarm this month, it is important that we open our eyes to the reality of animal abuse.

Share With Us!

We have so much great news to share from our nonprofit partners about their amazing work. But, we'd love to hear from you. Let us know if you have stories you'd like to tell and we'll make you a guest blogger!!
