#SpotlightOnCLT: Great Outdoors

Explore Charlotte's Great Outdoors with SHARE Charlotte and Our Local Nonprofits!
#SpotlightOnCLT is SHARE Charlotte's monthly content series that highlights a different cause or issue.  This series allows us to explore the crucial work being done in a particular arena by our local nonprofit partners.  For the month of June, we are going to put a spotlight on the "Great Outdoors".  As the summer temperatures rise and we yearn to emerge from our home and work spaces, let's #GetOutside!

Let's Talk About It: #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness

Today's highlight for #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness is all about Let's Talk About it, The Autism Center.  We spoke with Executive Director, La Becky Roe, about how this program makes such a big impact here in Charlotte.  This program was established to help people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their caregivers to maximize their opportunities and life experiences. They offer IEP support, advocacy, behavioral interventions, sensory management support, and corporate training to promote the inclusion of people with ASD in their organizations.

Today's highlight for #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness is all about RyzAb0ve Fitness.  We spoke with Executive Director Ryan Bost to learn more about this fitness company, and how they encourage fun and inclusivity all over Charlotte.  Most recently, RyzAb0ve exercised with Lexi from Belmont Abbey's Lacrosse Team, is planning a huge Crossfit event, and hung out at D9Brewing for a pounding exercise class!  To see more, follow their Instagram page, @ryzab0ve.fitness!

Special Olympics: #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness

Today's highlight for #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness is all about Special Olympics North Carolina.  Special Olympics North Carolina offers year-round sports training and competition for nearly 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. These athletes inspire greatness through their success and provide motivation to the thousands of coaches, sports officials, local program committee members, and event organizers involved in Special Olympics statewide. SONC offers Olympic-type competitions in 19 sports on local and state levels.

ZABS Place: #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness

Today's highlight for #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness is all about ZABS Place,  a "thrift boutique where potential is found". ZABS Place employs young adults with special needs or, as ZABS likes to say, special talents.  We spoke with Bentzion Groner, Executive Director about the store, and why she thought to find talent where no one else thought to look.

Camp Blue Skies: #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness

Today's highlight for #SpotlightOnCLT Autism Awareness is all about Camp Blue Skies.   This camp specializes in programs for adults with disabilities.  Programs like this can be life changing not only for the adult in the program, but for the caregivers who give so much, and for the volunteers who have the honor of participating at Camp Blue Skies.
